Stuck in a rut? You could
just be a Hero in the making!
While the Olympics
are on in Athens this month, there seems to be newfound interest
in the ancient Greek myths. The journey of Odysseus (in
The Odyssey by Homer) really made me think again about the idea
of being "stuck in a rut" - one of the most common
reasons people come to coaching or self-development.
In the
myth, Odysseus travels home to his wife, Penelope, after defeating
the Trojans in battle. The journey takes a total of ten years and
along the way he has to deal with many dangers including the Sirens
luring his men to their deaths, the Cyclops and the Lotus Eaters.
All this takes time - but his longest delay is with the goddess
Calypso, with whom he spends an entire 7 years after being washed
up on her island. After 7 years he finally decides to give up this
life of pleasure, yearning instead for his wife and son at home. Even though Calypso
tries to keep him by promising to make him immortal, he has made
up his mind and, with the help of an intervention by Zeus, he finally
leaves.
"Ruts" are like this. They can be pleasurable.
They can be comfortable. And even if they are not, they may
seem safer than the risk of escaping. And they may be genuinely
difficult to get out of - like being marooned on a island. But the
worst danger of all, is thinking "It has been like this
for so many years, it's too late to try and change now". Or even more dangerously
"I have
been like this for so many years, I can never change".
The modern world
too is full of heroes who experienced long periods of "non-heroness"
before achieving their dream. Colonel Sanders was a full 60 years
old when he started out with no savings and nothing but a fried
chicken recipe. Mary Wesley was 70 years old when she published
her first novel. Anthony Robbins, self-development phenomenon of
the 90's spent many years overweight and in poor paying jobs before
becoming the success he is today.
The rut you may be in now
says absolutely nothing about your potential - or how quickly things
can be turned around. A small intervention from Zeus - in the form
of a coach, a few rounds of EFT or even a comment from a friend,
may be all you need to be on your way.

Getting over the ex -
in the street!
I recently had the pleasure
of training a new AMT practitioner, Ric Hayman, Hypnotherapist and
Life Coach, also practising in Ipswich. When he came to collect his certificate last week he
told me this wonderful story of how he has recently used EFT.
He
had bumped into a friend in town who was looking very unhappy having
recently been left by his girlfriend.
Ric offered to help
him with this problem and rather than wait they conducted an EFT
session in the shopping precinct right outside a bookshop. According
to Ric, his friend's grief vanished within just a few minutes!
I look forward to hearing
many more of Ric's success stories as he adds EFT to his practice.
