1-1 Intensive Training Results
Special report on one client's results after a 1 day training focussed on food cravings

This month I am devoting most of the newsletter to reporting on the results of a 1-1 Intensive EFT training  that I ran three weeks ago for a lady named Karen wanting to focus on food craving issues. (She has given me permission to use her name and talk about the session).

I usually try to start the day with a short demo of the technique to get people used to where the points are, what to say and so on. I asked Karen to pick a "small" issue for us to work on and she chose to work on a fear of people touching her neck and throat area. We did a round on
"Even though I hate people touching my neck,..." and (even to my surprise) the fear fell from about about an 8 to a zero.

She laughed and said "Does that mean you can murder me now?". I laughed too, but realised that we were not done! Clearly there was a deeper "safety" issue lurking. She indicated that although that particular fear had gone, it "felt weird".
(I find this quite common when a belief or fear has been held for a long time - even though the body has released it, it feels strange to the conscious mind which is used to having it there!).

I had her tap on
"Even though it feels weird that people can touch my neck,...". The intention of this was not to try and clear the underlying safety issue (which could have take some time to work through assorted memories and aspects - and I was just trying to do a quick demo of the technique at this stage), but to consolidate the absence of fear for that particular perceived danger. In other words, to make the absence of fear feel more like the status quo.

At lunchtime, after just these two rounds of EFT, my client went for a walk around the block. When she returned she reported that she felt much more confident about walking down the street - less afraid and less suspicious of the people she met along the way. I was amazed! Even though we hadn't tapped directly on "Safety" at all, we must have tapped on an aspect of it.

Later in the day I was teaching Karen how to deal with multiple aspect issues and her chosen example was the fear of being stranded somewhere with no food and no money to buy any. We listed the aspects and rated them each individually.

One of the aspects was "A fear of non-existance". The safety issue had appeared again but in a different guise! Karen reported an intensity of 10 for this aspect so we dissociated from it by tapping on
"Even though it's a 10,..."  We tapped about 3 rounds on this to bring the intensity down to a manageable level. We then tapped on several other aspects for the overall fear - such as "Not knowing if I'll get enough food" and "Don't know when I'll next eat". After tapping on all the aspects she'd listed, the "fear of non-existence" had fallen to close to zero.

In total we tapped a total of 2 or 3 hours during the course of the day. At no point did we tap for the feeling of craving for any particular food. It seems likely that tapping on what turned out to deeper but related issues (such as "fear of non-existance" and a strong food-related childhood memory) helped undo the underlying anxiety that so often drives food cravings and many other addictions.

Over the next two weeks, Karen sent me three email progress reports. Here are just a few highlights :

"
Thank you for Saturday!!  Dramatic things are happening...On Saturday on the way home I stopped for petrol and without thinking just picked up a bottle of water - usually it would be two packet of crisps and bars of chocolate.

...
My food cravings have remained virtually nil.  I do  the "choices" statements and that keeps me on track.  I have actually sat with friends/relatives who are eating crisps/ cakes etc and I can decline without feeling desperate or deprived.

An interesting "side effect " is that now whenever I put my hand to my throat/neck
it is like a signal that my stress level has risen and I can tap or think of tapping to bring it down. Tested every day this week - I can allow <partner> to put his hand on my throat/ neck - I would previously felt under attack!

What is amazing to me is that I am not thinking "that I am dealing with my cravings" but that it is a historic issue!! All within a week. A big thank you!!"

Of course different clients respond at different rates and in different ways - but I remain astonished at the results that EFT can deliver in such a short time!
