Busting Loose from the Money
Game by Robert Scheinfeld
Most
books or workshops about Abundance are about how to manifest
more money using "spiritual" methods. But could this
book by a strightforward businessman be closer to the
truth of our energetic relationship with money than all of them?
There
aren't many books I manage to read cover to cover within a week -
but this was one of them. I read "Busting Loose from the Money
Game" just after I had seen the movie "The Secret"
and read Gary Renard's "The Disappearing Universe". And
this proved to be an immensely useful companion to this material.
Because although the apparent subject of the book is money, it's
actually about something much deeper and more profound - the very
nature of reality and consciousness. This makes it a "spiritual"
book in the truest sense. It's totally compatible (in my opinion)
with A Course in Miracles teaching that everything we perceive in
this existence is a projection of our own consciousness. In fact,
the book's early chapters lay out the groundwork for this point
of view in the clearest and most accessible way I've yet come across.
This is perhaps because Bob Scheinfeld's background isn't as a spiritual
teacher or as a quantum physicist (the people who seem to write
most of the books about consciousness and reality these days), but
as a very down to earth businessman who went looking for answers
as a result of his many ups and spectacular downs of his own business
life. The analogies and style of language therefore are very concrete
and no-nonsense - which makes for an easy and enjoyable read.
If
you're the type of person who likes to explore new perspectives
and new techniques but without having to sign up to someone else's
belief system or agenda first, you will probably enjoy this book.
The book is simply a record of Bob's own research as he tried
to understand and solve the practical problem of how to be
in charge of money instead of it being in charge of you. At the
heart of the book is a practical Process to be applied anytime you
are experiencing limitation around money. This Process is easy to
follow - I managed to summarise it into about half a page of A4
which I keep above my computer to remind me to do it.
So
although what lies behind the Process is a pretty big paradigm
shift regarding reality and consciousness, you don't have to fully
"get" and integrate the new paradigm before you can get
started on doing something practical to free yourself of your money
programming.
Personally what I really liked about the book
was the sense of liberation. Bob's own sense of freedom from all
kinds of "shoulds" and "oughts" around money
(and around life in general) comes across in every page. What if
it really was OK to simply "play" our way through life,
with full permission to create the life we want? It's an attitude
that many coaches encourage in their clients and many of us "self-developers"
out there aspire to. So it's an uplifting read at least.
Although
Bob's own journey began as a question about money - he quickly realised
that if we are making up our reality about money we are probably
doing it about everything else too. He refers throughout the book
to "The Human Game" of which "The Money Game"
is just a part. And he has recently expanded his work to include
"Busting Loose from the Emotions Game" - a subject which
will probably interest most EFTers out there. And although this
isn't an EFT book, I found it very compatible with EFT. The
heart of the Process involves tuning into the current feeling about
money, intensifying it if possible and then "reclaiming"
that energy. Doing that feels very much like a release - and an
EFT user could easily add in some tapping to accompany the Process.
But what
effect has the book actually had on me? I read it about 3 months
ago - so I would say the effect is subtle and ongoing. I do the
Process anytime I remember to. I would say my attitude to money
has relaxed significantly. There isn't the sense of panic or restriction
I used to feel sometimes. Instead there is an overall feeling of
expansion and possibility and I've become a lot more aware of how
programmed I've been about things like "where money ought to
come from". I've noticed myself coming up with ideas for making
money a lot more easily. I'm sure some readers will worry that stopping
worrying about money would result in irresponsibility or uncontrolled
spending sprees. Well I can assure you this hasn't happened to me
- in fact it's become clear to me that this kind of concern is simply
part of our programming around money. I'm sure I have a long
way to go - but I know this is a Process I'm going to keep
on using. Probably the biggest effect has been on my view of life
and reality in general - the reality of unreality has never felt
more real! - and whatever it does for my finances I'm far more grateful
for its role in expanding my consciousness. There aren't many books
this accessible which can have that kind of an impact.
If
the book has one weakness it's that clearly this is a Process you
need to apply consistently over time to see significant results
- Bob reports using it over a period of about 2 years, during which
he admits to periods of stuckness and frustation. (The fact that
this isn't offered as a "quick fix" is one of the things
I found believable about it - as a coach it makes sense to me that
undoing a lifetime's conditioning will take time and persistence).
So it's easy to imagine a reader simply forgetting to apply the
Process after a while and therefore not get the benefits. The ideas
in the book and the Process are also available as an interactive
"Home Transformational" system which presumably addresses
this and provides the sort of ongoing support that many people would
like. The system is fairly pricey but the book does a good
job of being an inexpensive introduction to the interactive
system.
Overall
rating: Clear,
accessible, mind-expanding - well worth a look
